If you think there’s a technical problem with your phone, please call extension 7529 or submit request  Octopus Portal. In addition, please note that the default voicemail password for your line is your extension (i.e.: 7529), and you may change that in setup.

Email
As a Vanier employee, you have access to your Exchange email account. In additional to accessing it from any web browser utilizing the OWA (Outlook Web Access), you can also connect with Microsoft Outlook on your PC, Apple Mail on your Mac, or setup your iOS device (iPod Touch, iPad, or iPhone) or Android device to access mail. If you are having trouble with your VanierPass account, or haven’t set any security questions yet, click here.

Email Setup for Microsoft Outlook

Get connected to your Vanier email using Microsoft Outlook on your PC

Open Control Panel

Open Control Panel, and select Mail, and E-mail Accounts. Then click New.

Enter Information

Fill in your information in the various fields, using your VanierPass password. When finished, click Next. You may be prompted for the login information again – note that your VanierPass username (in the image “name”) must be prefixed with vaniercollege\ (e.g.: vaniercollege\name). Enter your email password again, and click OK.

That's It!

It may take Outlook a couple minutes to complete configuration. Once it’s finished, you should see the three green check marks as shown. Then click Finish. You are now able to use Outlook as your email client for your Vanier Exchange account.

Email Setup for Apple Mail

Get connected to your Vanier email using the built-in Mail client on your Mac

Open System Preferences

Open System Preferences, which can be found on your Dock at the bottom, or by clicking on the Apple icon in the task bar, and then clicking on System Preferences.

Internet Accounts

Click on Internet Accounts

Add Account

Select Exchange

Enter Email

Enter your Vanier email address and VanierPass password

Account Summary

After confirming your account, it should display the appropriate account information. Click Continue.

Select Services

Check the services you wish to use and click Done. Now you are ready to use your Vanier Exchange services with Apple Mail, Calendar, Contacts, Notes, and Reminders.

Email Setup for iOS

Get connected to your Vanier email using the built-in Mail client in your iPhone or iPad

Go to Mail Settings

Go to Settings, and select Mail, Contacts, and Calendars

Add Account

Tap Add Account

Choose Account Type

Choose Exchange

Enter Account Information

Put in your email address and VanierPass password, and give the account a name

Select Services

Select which Exchange services you wish to use, and tap Save. Note that by default, Mail will only sync the past week of mail. To change this, go to the mail account screen, tap on the account, and scroll down to “Mail Days to Sync” and adjust as desired.

Email Setup for Android

Get connected to your Vanier email using the built-in email client in your Android tablet or smartphone

Add Email Account

Go to apps and click on the Email app and add new account. Put in your email address and VanierPass password, and then press Manual Setup in the top-left.

Choose Account Type

Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync

Enter Server Settings

Put in your username, password, and exchange server: mail.vaniercollege.qc.ca and use SSL.

Accept Remote Security Administration

Tap OK

Outlook Web Access

Point your web browser to mail.vaniercollege.qc.ca and login using your username and password (as described on the Account Management page). Please note that for the best experience using OWA, visit it using Internet Explorer, if possible. However, all modern web browsers will be able to access the basic email functions.

Canada's Anti-Spam Law

Canada’s new anti-spam law (CASL) took effect on July 1st 2014. As part of this new legislation it is illegal for organizations, including colleges, to send a commercial electronic message of any kind unless the recipient has consented to receive it. Email Info

Email sending size limit: 25 MB

You can send emails with attachments totalling no-more than 25MB: Enough to attach a dozen photos, or the Complete Works of Shakespeare, the Old & New Testaments, the Quran, War & Peace, and still have room for a few pictures of kittens.

Email alias: first.last@vaniercollege.qc.ca

In addition to your standard Vanier email address (e.g.: appleseedj@vaniercollege.qc.ca) you also have an “alias” (you can send or receive from) that is your firstname.lastname (e.g.: johnny.appleseed@vaniercollege.qc.ca). All emails to/from this alias are the same as from your regular email username.

Password requirements: Your password must be at least 9 characters and must change every 90 days

We recommend making it even longer though, and using a combination of letters, numbers, and punctuation. Using a phrase is handy as well (e.g.: thedogranafterthecat)

VPN
VPN, or Virtual Private Network, allows you to connect to the Vanier network from outside the College. While running the VPN service on your computer you can access on the College network just as if you were sitting at your desk, including your personal P: drive and your department O: drive. See below for instructions on connecting with Windows, Mac OS X, iOS, or Android.
